About ELU

This training package was developed by Kevin Crenshaw, Director at Priacta, author of NeverBoss and founder of Empowering Leadership University. In partnership with Kevin, Ability Consultants is offering you the chance to become a certified leader in the empowering leadership model.

Empowering Leadership includes 7 modules which introduce you to ELU principles. Through quizzes and assignments, you'll integrate ELU principles into your everyday role and in doing so, certify your knowledge and competency.

How does it fit in with my role?

ELU aligns with and complements our person-centred, strengths approach that we take in our work with families and clients. You'll be able to integrate your knowledge into your daily routines, improve your fulfilment, satisfaction and sense of purpose.

Who should apply for this course?

Anyone at Ability Consultants — it's another tool in your kit, whatever your role. Whether you're the CEO, part of our intake team, a behaviour support practioner just getting started, or a seasoned clinician. You'll learn principles you can apply not just in leadership roles but also in your work as a behaviour support practitioner. Team leaders and management are strongly encouraged to complete ELU.

What do I need to do to complete ELU?

Express your interest, and once enroled, work through the online learning component and take part in 9 group coaching sessions.
There are two options to attend coaching:
  1. Internal coaching is offered twice a week with Belinda Thurlow, who is a certified coach; or
  2. External coaching is offered with Kevin once a week.
The Empowering Leadership University program transformed me. It might not be for you, but it was my road to Damascus.

I attended weekly coaching with Kevin Crenshaw for over three years. Before this, in 2018, I was an anxious behaviour support practitioner with too many clients and too many missed deadlines—anxious because my clients were sometimes being disadvantaged by me and my poor self-management, and my goal was to empower them, not make things worse for them.

I learned that I was scared of delegating and scared of becoming a leader. The Neverboss story showed me leadership that brings the same freedom and social connection to a team, that PBS brings to our clients. ELU is the training ground for this. I recommend it if you also want to make a bigger positive impact, in an empowered collaborative team, than you can make as an individual.

This training has helped me put language and framework to a way of working that until now has been intuitive to me but not so conscious. As a result, I have experienced more safety at work, and can humbly say that my leadership and clinical skills have grown for the better. I feel more aligned and balanced in my sense of direction and purpose.
